Hi! I'm hoping this will be useful enough to warrant its own little icecream cutie on the front page, but for now we're here in art.

This is a list of what crafts we're going to/try to do in Japan Club! That means you're voting here, suggesting, and debating technique and reasonability of the crafts.

First:

Kusudama, flower ball. Importance: Wards off evil and illness (we'll hang these at the start of the year next time! lol)

ooh, I'd love some Japanese fans! Jess mentioned the tea ceremony? Why do we need to contact tavalon? Do they give classes for the tea ceremony?

Tavalon came and gave a tea demonstration at montclair (they're allumnies apparently) and they might give us a bunch of tea for a reasonable price. Depending on how popular the tea ceremony ends up being (people love it, but it's not a performance, it's an art and it's part of the religion. so if we get people willing to do it maybe once a month we'd need bulk tea. also our Adviser asked if we would think about doing a panel on it for the World Fair.

I like the Fan idea!

A tea ceremony would be nice. It takes about 15 min for a demo of the tea ceremony. its doable outside as long as its nice weather and theres a mic for narration. im not sure how viable it is for once a month, but it's pretty neat to see at least once a semester. usually we only get to see it in the spring for the cherry blossom festival.

on a different note, we could try ikebana again.

if im correct, theres an ikebana association in nj that might be willing to give a demo.

if anyone is interested i could put together something on japanese ukiyo-e prints.
