Haunted Temple - Oct 21; 5:00pm; Cafe BC

We are going to need a lot of prepping for this event if we are going to create a mini haunted trail. :O

Ideas! Suggestions!
Creative Minds!

and we will need all the man power we can get!

How should we have the layout? Im thinking to use many mangas as references since some of them have it illustrated pretty well. Googling, etc.

hmm... its pretty much an open box.... so i would say maze, but we need a few quick walls. actually a lot of them... we could hang up sheets to create the walls of a maze... now what the hell does temple style mean? i think of lots of open air in temples... not a ton of places to jump out from. perhaps the art committee has suggestions?

We can perhaps try to base our temple on a real temple? It doesn't have to be exact but that way we can give some "educational" info about temples in Japan and the one we picked in specific. :') <3

ohhh THIS event might be the one where we should use the Japanese ghost/demon/monster list. lol

I think it literally means "ghost summit" cuz all the ghosts are gathering around to haunt the place.

i made some quick sketches of what the haunted temple/mansion should look like. *don't bop me with the mallet of death because they're hard to understand, they were made fast





i think it should be in the quad if we're making one long hallway. we can make the outside entrance look like a real temple. it'd be neat if we could have wooden sliding doors

once you enter there will be a creepy shrine guy sitting and waiting for anyone who wants to come in, as shown in the sketch lol. behind will be a curtain which would lead to the hallway. there we can have people dress up as demons, and such. i want someone to dress up like that scary black thing from 'spirited away' o___o'

also if possible we can add rooms that come out of the hallway and we can have people go on a quest to escape, or else they will die :XX and there could be more creepy stuff like people waiting in rooms, someone hanging from a noose, bugs in jars (with holes in them so they can breathe :p), a closet with someone popping out, and a mirror that two arms pop out and strangle people to death.....yeah it'd be crazyyyy XDD

also we should add music like when you enter inside and then when you pass the curtain into the main hallway.

We could also have eerie sound effects playing in various rooms. Any one here seen or heard of Chakushin ari? If you have, you know exactly what im talking about otherwise click the link below. We could also base the temple off of the house from the Ju-on series(great movies to watch if you want to see an example a Japanese haunted house).

Also if possible, get our hands on a fog machine and cover the temple in fog. That combined with music and sound effects will make for a pretty good haunted temple.

This sounds awesome. Not sure what I can do, but I'd be happy to help if you need an extra hand. I'm pretty big on mythology and Japanese monsters too, so I can maybe help plan out and design monsters (we could probably scare everyone with a Shirime, but we might get arrested... btw, don't look up what that that is in google images... I can just imagine what you'd find *shutter*).

lol let's get some re-search on ghosts, demons, and the like. is there a good anime/manga out there that might help? The only one I can think off the top of my head is INUYASHA (lulz!!)

Yay! Arts and crafts projects coming up! This means the bill has to be sent in asap so we have enough time to purchase and assemble our scary props! This means research, and to produce a shopping list.

Shall we start with a good list scary demons?


There could be a few stations:

Coloring
-we print out pre-drawn demons and ghosts for people to color
(LoL!! make sure we have pre-designated colors)

FreeStyle
-people can draw their own demons while looking at references

Props
-making things like the spell papers (lets keep away from paper mache for now maybe?)

http://www.obakemono.com/ is a good introduction. If you wanna get into weird stuff, then there's some really creative weirdness in Fuan no Tane that we may be able to throw a few references from into this. It's a quick read too. Only 2-3 pages per story, and only three volumes total. Though most of the stories aren't old stories, a few are, and many beings are very creepy (a good example is a mysterious stalker with a pair of shears and a bag full of human ears).

My favorites on that site are Zashiki-warashi (creepy children) and Bake-kujira (ghost whale followed by birds). Do we actually want scary? or are we going for cutesy? because there are some great japanese monsters that are terrifying, but there are also a lot that would work for cutesy (like kappa and that one legged ubrella thing who's name I can't remember.)

i love kappas... I cast one vote in favor of kappas... btw after we come up with a list, we should put together a sort of pokedex for all the monsters we have, like a guide? Learning is fun!

I kind of suck with physical media (I make too many errors because I like experimenting to much and am spoiled by digital tools), but If there's a computer with photoshop and I can plug my tablet into it, I don't mind doing drawings for people. If not I can do some in advance and just have them as prints, maybe make some carboard and velvet frames or something so it doesn't look like I'm just printing pictures.

and I don't know about framing them. we're thinking of cut out decorations, simple stuff that people can have fun coloring but will also make spooky accents to the Haunted house
