| As well as the balloon game, we should probably have a kids game that requires no props in case we need to waste time or have a demonstration while we set something else up. | |

| I was hoping maybe a group of people (or JCDC if they want to <__< >___>; ) would want to learn a simple bon dance and then they can perform a mini one. and then after they can teach the easy steps to whoever is present :> | |

| Yeah, the water balloon/yoyo game. It was so stressful to have to keep telling the customers that I had to make more hooks because we were all out and to come back in two minutes. And, I NEVER. STOPPED. MAKING. THOSE. DARN. HOOKS. I was making them nonstop, and they just kept running out. I understand that people want to watch the other stuff going on, but that's no excuse to just leave one person with all the work and prevent them from doing anything. That's so not juice. | |

| soo... pre made hooks should take care of that? and when we're out, we're out? maybe a preset limit, like 3 hooks per person?
and... that bon dance sounds awesome! that would be really cool! | |

| The stage should be used as a pulpit and a performance-related thing instead of storage. We can keep our bags and stuff in the office or under/next to the stage. | |

| : ) If we want to stick with more typical Japanese Festival foods here's the fruit of last summer's research
FOOD
Main Dishes
1. Yakisoba
noodle
(This will be so much easier to serve b/c it can be eaten cold!)
2. Rice / Sweet potato Rice (this was popular last year, but maybe this year we should do more with baked sweet potatoes?)
buy sweet potatoes from Hong Kong supermarket
Peel sweet potato and cut into bite size pieces. Wash rice Place rice, sweet potato pieces, salt to taste and in the rice cooker. Put your hand flat on the top of the rice and pour in cold water until it reaches where your wrist starts. Let it sit for about 20 minutes before cooking the rice. Once the cooking cycle is done, let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes and fluff with a wooden or plastic rice paddle.
Side Dishes 3. Yakitori (are we doing to do the grill again? I vote no....)
Chicken 1 1/2 cups mirin 1 1/2 cups e soy sauce 1/4 cup sugar
Sauce: Preheat the griller to high. Pour the mirin into a saucepan over high heat and bring to the boil then reduce to a simmer for 30 minutes. Put the pan over high heat and stir until the mixture boils and becomes thick and glossy. Remove from the heat and allow to cool before using.
Cut each thigh fillet into 12 even pieces.
Heat a griller to high and cook the skewers, turning regularly, for 3-4 minutes, then baste with the sauce. Cook on each side for a further 1 to 2 minutes, basting again during this time, until well glazed and the chicken is cooked through. 3-4 minutes on each side (about 10-12 minutes each)
4. Grilled veg. skewers plum tomato 99c lb AMP zucchini/squash onion $2 lb AMP peppers $1.88 AMP
5. grilled corn (grilled corn is not a traditional japanse food, but like chocolate covered banannas it is HUGE at japanese festivals. We could just boil corn and then simmer it on the stove the night before)
use sauce from yakitori to baste, keep turning on grill for 10-12 minutes. keep on non-intense heat (wrap in tinfoil)
Dessert
Chocolate Covered bananas
Honestly I've thought about this for a long time, and, it seems the easiest way to do it would be to cut the bananas into sections, put them in individual plastic cups (like the kind you get sweat and sour sauce in) and then pour the chocolate on top.
Getting the bananas on sticks like at real matsuri is too time consuming and too difficult
Doriyaki pancake mix 2tbsps flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 cup milk 2 egg yolks 1tbsp melted butter
Mix egg yolks and sugar in a pan. Add sifted flour in the pan and mix well. Add warm milk in the pan gradually. Place the pan on low heat and stir the mixture constantly until thickened. Stop the heat and add melted butter and stir well. Cool the custard cream.
Calpico Jelly 5oz Calico Water Milk 13oz Powdered Gelatin 18g
pour powdered gelatin into water, set aside for 2-3 minutes. add 2.5oz of water and double boil until it's dissolved. combine milk, calpico and rest of the water. stir. pour into molds and chill in fridge until firm
